CHORUS STAFF
Karin Larsen, Artistic Director/Conductor
Karin Larsen fell in love with children’s choral music as a teenager, when she received a Vienna Boys Choir album as a gift and listened to it for hours on end. Her musical journey has since led her to piano and pipe organ, teaching and conducting, accompanying and composing. She’s led worship bands, instrumental ensembles, and adult and children’s vocal ensembles — but she especially loves working with handbell and youth choirs and arranging music for them.
Karin received her degree in Music and Worship from Trinity Lutheran College, after which she was an adjunct piano professor at the school for four years. She spent about fifteen years as a Lutheran church musician. She’s also been a private piano teacher since 2012; she continues as an instructor at Joyful Academy of Music in Everett, WA.
Karin was SCYC’s Accompanist from 2016-2019. She returned as Artistic Director in 2023. Her goal is for each chorister to build a strong foundation of music theory and healthy vocal production, helping them prepare for wherever their individual musical journeys take them.
Grant Hanner, Collaborative Musician/Accompanist
A Kirkland native, Grant began his musical journey playing violin and piano. He studied Viola Performance at Seattle University, developing a deep love of chamber music. In May 2024, he completed a Master’s in Music (Viola & String Pedagogy) in Albuquerque, NM. He plays viola with the Everett-based Pacifica Chamber Orchestra and currently serves as the principal violist for Harmonia Orchestra & Chorus. Grant also teaches violin and viola in Ballard and Bellevue. He plays piano regularly, having accompanied musicals, student choirs, student recitals, auditions, recordings, and Church services. He is excited to further give back to his community in Everett!
